Post 7: My Indignation

With regard to all this setback that is occurring due to the change in the educational program of the education of the middle school students in Chile, there is another thing that unites me in the same or worse way and is the cost of books.

In general, the access to culture in Chile is precarious and is extremely worrisome. Since I was little I liked reading, but the price of books is too high. While there are alternatives, such as libraries, it’s not enough. In addition, there is no incentive to read, that's why studies always show that a very small percentage of Chileans hardly understand what they read.

There are very few instances in the year with activities dedicated to reading, such as FILSA (International Book Fair of Santiago) that has been done for more than 30 years. However, it’s unusual that at the most important book fair in Santiago, every year people have to pay for their income. For them it’s not enough to sell expensive books, but they also add an extra cost just to enter the fair.

We should advance in the culture and not back down, we need to generate a real access to culture for all.

POST 3: My favourite piece of technology

The portable music players have made my days much more entertaining. Usually people use their cell phones to listen to their favorite songs. However, I prefer a device that is exclusive to listen to music. When I was 11 years old, my mom gave me a Sony Walkman Mp3 Player, that had a capacity for approximately 30 songs, very little capacity for these days. But I didn’t care, I was happy with those 256 MB. Over time the players increased their capacity and I could listen to the complete discs that I liked the most.  Today I don't have to download music from internet as before, I only need to pay a monthly subscription to an application that allows me a broad musical catalog. For this I bought an iPod Touch that is like a cell phone but doesn’t receive calls. It’s wonderful! No message or call interrupts my music.

Post 8- Carrer-Related Website OR An Expert on your Field

One of my first approaches to journalism was through a book by Rodrigo Fluxa, a journalist from the University of Chile who has written several reference books in different areas. The book was called "Solos en la noche", which caused a lot of impact because it told the life of the assassins of Daniel Zamudio. Subsequently, it became a television production where Fluxa himself wrote the script. The way he explains the stories is the one I like the most. He shows several perspectives on a controversial case, so it leaves readers to decide what to believe and what not. I have read several books of him and each one surprises me more, he gives you unknown antecedents, profiles of his protagonists with several details, so that one can immediately build the image in his head. A few weeks ago he brought out a new book, about Viviana Heager, an accountant from Puerto Varas who, after 42 days disappeared, was found dead in her own home. I hope to have the opportunity to read...
